Volunteer Opportunities
Although the town of Copán Ruinas is relatively prosperous due to eco-tourism and the Maya ruins, the region around Copán is one of the poorest places in the Western Hemisphere.
For this reason, volunteer opportunities abound. And your efforts are sure to be deeply appreciated. For many years we have been arranging volunteer stints for our students.
For students living in Copán for an extended period, rewarding volunteer positions are available in a variety of fields.
For example, past students have worked on reforestation projects, in day care centers, or on drinking water projects. The need for volunteer assistance is greatest in the following areas:
- Environment
- Health
- Education
- Agriculture
- Religion
